Become a Teacher of Talking at Home, School, Clinic or Hospital

The Teaching of Talking

Mastering any new skill can be a challenge.  However, it can be done readily when we have a burning desire to accomplish a new skill set.

This is Vic.  He is a student of the Teaching of Talking.  Vic's wife had a stroke 3 years ago, and his wife had 2 or three speech therapists since that time.  Some of the therapy addressed cognitive methods where fill in the blank questions were given from workbooks, and homework sheets that would have her fill in sentence completions, and writing skills.  Shelia had difficulty with cognitive therapy, but it did not directly address her speaking and communicating at home with Vic or socially when out and about.

Shelia also received therapy that was computer based.  She would come for therapy and do drills in the computer center.  She also learned about apps and had some success with those.  Vic would often bring her to therapy and then come back after her therapies were over.  Computer technology and programs for communication and story telling were used, and Shelia had some success with that.

Vic found out about the Teaching of Talking Method to speech and language stimulation and thought it made sense for him to learn how to help Shelia at home.  Since he was retired, there would be plenty of time for that.  They did everything together and he thought their daily experiences would be perfect opportunities for speaking.  He took her for daily walks, to the gym for exercise, to doctor and rehabilitation appointments and to the homes of their children for regular family gatherings.  He really had a great deal of time with her, and The Teaching of Talking Method was a perfect way for him to help her speak better.

Victor read the Teaching of Talking Book, and had an audio-copy of it on his smart phone (Audio Book-Audible.com).  Shelia is improving her speaking and moving on to more difficult language structures.  Months ago she was not speaking.  Then with the therapist and Vic's help she started saying single words with stimulation for common vocabulary around the house and for all the things she wanted.  The therapist then taught Vic how to expand her speaking from one word to two, and then on to phrases and sentences.  Vic has learned how to help Shelia speak, and now she is a part of the conversation.  Now Vic and Shelia are speaking with one another all through the day.  He is asking her questions which trigger phrases and sentences.  The house is no longer quiet and Vic and Shelia are now speaking with one another.

Vic's relationship with Shelia has taken on a new dimension and the two of them continue to be a loving couple and devoted team.  Vic takes responsibility for helping his wife and now takes the leading role in the improvement and expansion of speaking since discharge from the therapy center.
