Play Perfect Darts

Published on Jan 25, 2013

David Croft shows you how using Winmau SightRight Technology.

Watch this superb instructional video with the voice of darts David Croft, who shows you how to improve your darts and get perfectly positioned on the oche.

SightRight's 4 easy steps gives you Perfect Dart Vision so you can position yourself perfectly on the oche time and time again.

SightRight prevents sighting across the line (like 99% of TV dart professionals).

Why set up at the number 5 when you're aiming for treble 20?

Once you learn how to SightRight, your technique and biomechanics develop a symmetrical throw i.e. Double 16 and Double 10 will feel the same.

SightRight straightens up the path of your darts into the dartboard dramatically reducing blocked doubles and trebles.

Wildfire 137 Dart Frame

Uploaded on Oct 11, 2010

The unique action and design of the Wildfire 137 dart frame has opened the door for direct competition between able-bodied players and those whose only disability is loss of lower body mobility. The special piece of equipment has now been approved by the Darts Federation of Australia for use in all competitions up to national level.

Australia-wide support for the Wildfire 137 "duo" dartboard concept aided their historic decision to approve a lowered dartboard height for wheelchair players thereby enabling their inclusion into mainstream darts events.

The special counter-weight design provides the leg-room and freedom for wheelchair players to retrieve their darts, score on the specially marked whiteboard, and rotate the backboard for others during the game. An easy roll over, (raised) oche with flat bar sides make it suitable for all players no matter what their level of ability.

Special fixtures at the rear of the frame allow for the prominent display of promotional banners 1.4m x 0.8m in size making the sponsorship of dart frames attractive to organisations prepared to support those with disability and encourage their participation in a safe and rehabilitative sport.

The frame can be assembled by one person in just 10 minutes and is easily transported in a mid-sized station wagon. Rotation of the backboard with its simple locating mechanism can be operated by a child in just 3 seconds.

When first displayed during one of Victoria's most popular darting competitions a Register of Support was signed by 100% of able-bodied players. Many wheelchair users will now return to a sport they once loved. Many more will have access to a safe and challenging activity for rehabilitation and therapy.

The dart frames are available for purchase, lease or hire and demonstrations and consultations are available on request.

Full details of the new ruling, setup details for the new board height and more information on the range of Wildfire 137 dart frames can be viewed on our website at: www.wheelchairdarts.com.

Playing Darts

Published on Feb 25, 2013

Recently I have joined the world disability darts association as a board member. The main man Russell Strobel has come up with the idea of a rotating board (The wildfire 137 dart frame) as shown in the video. It allows people in wheelchairs to compete fairly against able body people by having a board that is lower than the normal height of a dart board.

Being in a chair (especially quadriplegics) I rely on other people to do a lot of things, having the lower dart board allows me to go fetch the darts myself which gives me one more thing to add to the list of things that I can do myself.

If you can not hold a dart then there is another option of the satellite board. This board is suitable for higher levels of quads and higher disabilities. It can also be played by blind people. It is an addictive game one that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

I hope to get a video up soon of the satellite board.

If anyone has any questions you can contact me on youtube visit my blog www.beauvernon.com or go to the website http://www.world-disability-darts.org...

Leicester Hosts National Indoor Polio Games

Published on Mar 19, 2014

SSTattler: The game is disability and about Kurling, Bowls and Darts not about polio...

This weekend saw 140 disabled competitors living with the late effects of Polio and Post Polio Syndrome (PPS) descend on the Marriott hotel in Leicester for the start of the National Indoor Games by the British Polio Fellowship.

Competitors competed in nine different indoor sports which were all specifically tailored for those with physical disability, they included Kurling, Bowls and Darts.

After a long time without any significant change in their condition, up to 80% of people who contract Polio in earlier life can develop new or increasing muscle weakness and pain, swallowing and breathing problems and chronic fatigue. This is known as post Polio Syndrome (PPS), which is a neurological condition. It is thought that around 120,000 people in the UK are living with the effects of Polio or PPS today.

In 2013 a survey was undertaken that highlighted that despite being as common as Parkinson's disease, awareness amongst GPs of a fellow neurological condition like PPS is low and has left a forgotten generation of Polio survivors struggling for diagnosis. The survey revealed 69 per cent of GPs rated their knowledge of PPS as low and 42 per cent said they would feel the need to refer a suspected PPS case to a neurologist for diagnosis; an acknowledgment that more awareness of the condition is needed across the primary medical community.
