Day 104: Tishomingo State Park (rest day)

Friday October 10, 2014

We were hoping it would rain like crazy today since we were taking the day off. That would have made us feel better about not being on the bikes. But it never happened. Overcast - yes. Humid - yes. Rain - no.

It was nice to sleep in and not have to pack everything up. After breakfast Dana and I drove through the rest of the park. She wanted to show me where they stayed the last time they rode the Trace. It was a cabin up on the ridgeline. The road was pretty steep and they had been doing a self-supported tour last time, so they got to ride up to the cabin.

Dana moving slowly so as not to
make the bridge "swing" too much.
We also saw the swinging bridge, an old public swimming pool, other cabins and a very old rustic cabin that isn't used anymore but is interesting to see. Tishomingo State Park is a lot bigger than I realized when I drove in here yesterday.

Late in the morning we left Bill to work on his computer on the upcoming routes and the rest of us drove into the town of Iuka, MS. Locals had told us that was where the nearest laundromat was, and there was a Piggly Wiggly grocery store right next to it, so we could get our food shopping done too.

After the excitement of being in the "big city" we returned to the peace and quiet of the camp. The rest of the day was spent working on bikes, working online, and just hanging out. Our original schedule had us staying another day but I think we will head out tomorrow. That way we will have an extra day that we could use down the road if we get some bad weather.
