Tan Le - ideaCity10

Uploaded on Sep 15, 2010

SSTattler: Very good story about her immigration from Vietnam but it takes 8:00 minutes so you can skip it if you want to. The last 12 minutes is about Emotiv and it is very good.

About this talk - Think of Star Wars -- who wouldn't want to use "The Force," firsthand? Tan Le presents the EPOC headset; a device that makes it possible for specially designed computer applications to be controlled and influenced by the user's mind and facial expressions. Here, Le discusses the implementations of the technology, her fascination with the human brain, and why challenges are often opportunities in disguise.

About this speaker - Tan Le is co-founder of Emotiv Systems, a neuroengineering company that has developed breakthrough interface technology for digital media that takes inputs directly from the brain. Emotiv's vision is to revolutionize human-computer interface in the same way the graphical user interface did 20 years ago.

Grapevine Using Emotiv EPOC (Gyro Mouse and Blink)

Published on May 31, 2013

In this demo, I'm using Grapevine communication software to demonstrate typing using a brain wave scanner (Emotiv EPOC). This scanner detects when I blink and performs a left mouse click. For more information about my projects, see www.grapevineat.ie.

Mind Control of Lego NXT Telepresence Robot

Published on Sep 20, 2012

In this video I demonstrate the use of an assembly of technologies that I put together that enables me to exert mind control over the telepresence robot that I have demonstrated previously (itself an assembly of a range of technologies).

The key addition to the earlier assembly and demonstration of the remote telepresence robot (which can be found here: http://youtu.be/lJTU3fLoZuY) is the use of an Emotiv EPOC headset, which is able to sense, record, and transmit information concerning "brain waves" or EEG signals from my brain.

Using this I am able to direct my attention to particular areas of the computer screen and, by concentrating and training the Emotiv software to associate particular brain states with particular actions such as left-clicking the mouse, I am able to use my mind to control the little robot - whose "eyes and ears" I can see and hear out of via the streaming video feed displayed on the computer.

I have only recently started training with the Emotic EPOC headset and this form of mind control is still very difficult - it is a lot harder than it looks in this video. There were occasions where quite a bit of time would elapse between successful movements - you can see the transitions between each movement of the robot, which I have edited because some of them were nearly a minute long.

So there is much more training required before I could claim "competent" control with fluid and responsive action of the robot from my thoughts. But, that being said, while it is rudimentary, as demonstrated in the video it still works and is a good little proof-of-concept.

If you are going to attempt this yourself you should be prepared for some occasional frustration!

Mind Controlled Spy Robot - Emotiv, Headset Pilots Rovio @ Skype

Uploaded on Apr 25, 2010

This video is of the early prototype project that is now a product in final testing. You can find it in the Emotiv store at the end of July 2012: http://emotiv.com/

ExtremeTech video that shows a WowWee Rovio mobile spy robot being piloted via thoughts, facial gestures, and head movements with the help of the Emotiv Systems 14-electrode EPOC EEG headset with built-in gyroscope. The heart of the system is Robodance 5, a free software program for consumer robot owners due out on May 20, 2005 (beta). The robot can be piloted with the headset from anywhere in the world you have a Web connection and are able to make a Skype video call since Skype is used as the backbone for a remote session. Visit ExtremeTech using the link below to read the full article detailing how the Emotiv Systems headset and SDK were used to create this demonstration.
