Article: Dean - The Tipping Point of Stroke Research and Rehabilitation

Dean's Stroke Musing
This is trying to apply the concepts in the book, The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, to stroke. You don't have to read the book, you can get a pretty complete summary here Summary - The Tipping Point

We need some Connectors to distribute our thoughts and requirements to whomever is the leader in stroke. Its obviously not the ASA, NSA or WSO because they are not leading anything. But by applying the concepts we can distribute our thoughts worldwide.

The Alzheimers Association has created that tipping point for them, everyone in the world is clamouring for a cure. We need to create that same clamour, and not the prevention F.A.S.T. excuse that stroke associations use to imply they are doing something. We have to find a prevention for the neuronal cascade of death, and have the whole world talk about that needed research, with breathless articles extolling the latest advance.

Parkinsons did it with a celebrity, Michael J. Fox, having contracted the disease.

Stroke has to come up with something, or we just wait until 1 in 6 have had a stroke and then its too late. It will have tipped with no useful result.

  1. Mark McEwen comes to mind...just a thought. He's done some pretty good awareness pieces. But unlike other diseases, stroke is 80% preventable so people have a prejudgement connotation of they get what they deserve.
