Whitewater Canoeing - Petawawa River, Algonquin Park

Uploaded on Dec 10, 2011

SSTattler: We went to Petawawa many times and there is no Solitude at all. But we had lots of fun & enjoyment - excitement enter the rapids, terror in the middle, dump occasionally, relief at the end. This is especially for Dean - Deans’ Stroke Musing. See at well Dumoine River - nice river, especially the falls :-), in Québec.

The Petawawa River, Algonquin Park, Ontario using GoPro HD. A whitewater canoe trip down the mighty Petawawa River in Algonquin Park Ontario, Canada. Yes that is a canoe wrapped around a rock @ 3:40.

Filmed entirely on a GoPro HD camera. It's awesome you should get one.

Last two Long segments are:
  1. Lower Crooked Chute - Class III Canoe - Starts @ 2:45 - 3:50 - No one was hurt though I did get caught up in the canoe as I floated by. Pretty Scary indeed. The canoe unwrapped itself a few minutes later and was ready to take on the next series of rapids.
  2. The Famous Rollaway Rapid - Class IV Canoe - Starts @ 3:50 - 5:20 - We were the only ones to attempt running the entire rapid without eddying out. Such a blast!

  2. Pull Out: McManus Lake

Kayak Solitude

Uploaded on Dec 12, 2011

SSTattler: We tried kayak lessons - we went to a pool and we got 3 lessons (out of 10) and they told us, this day, to roll (i.e. take your kayak 1: upside down and then 2: right side up). I went down and up, very imperfect but I did it, total a few seconds; my partner went down and she was in trouble, approx. 30 seconds, and eventually she pulled her “skirt” and immediately she quit. Sometimes I have thoughts with Solitude... but we never went again for lessons for kayaking... (Look at How to Roll a Kayak).

Snowshoes And Solitude (2014) - (Documentary)

Published on Dec 26, 2014

SSTattler: In February / 2014 we published Def'n: Snowshoes for Stroke Survivor; I was the absolutely beginner  and Carrie L was relatively expert. We went to Lecture About Snowshoeing at Mountain Equipment Co-Op and we met and talked to Monika Owczarek (Canadian Snowshoe Running Champion). Monika insisted us to go to the Snowshoe Races in Edmonton 2014 5k - we did, much slower, but we finished and lots Solitude... !
Thanks Monika and Carrie...

Snowshoes And Solitude: In the spring of 1994, Les Stroud and Sue Jamison bade farewell to modern society and followed their hearts north, into the remote reaches of the Canadian wilderness. Leaving home, family and jobs behind, they would spend the next year living closer to the land than most of us could ever imagine. And they did it without the luxury of a single modern convenience. Les and Sue were attempting to replicate life in North American some 500 years ago, before Europeans first set foot on the continent. They created fire without matches. They built a shelter with a stone axe. They survived on what the bush provided. In doing so, they realized the true meaning of living wild, and how closely life and death coexist when you're many miles from human contact. Snowshoes and Solitude is the incredible story of Les and Sue's year in the Wabakimi wilderness. It chronicles the struggles and triumphs of the daily lives, and their burning love and respect for the natural world.
