PoTS - Another Blog by Nick

Sas Freeman
June 8, 2015

Unfortunately  Sas is still in Hospital undergoing treatment. They have diagnosed her condition as Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) which is an abnormal increase in heart rate after sitting or standing up. It typically causes dizziness, fainting, sweating and other symptoms. There are many possible causes of PoTS, but in many cases the condition is unexplained. In PoTS, for some reason Sas’s autonomic nervous system doesn’t function properly. There’s a drop in her blood supply to the heart and brain when she is upright.

In an attempt to compensate for this, the heart races and the body produces lots of the hormone noradrenaline (one of the hormones that prepares you for “fight or flight”).

Setbacks
At the moment the Doctors are doing tests and prescribing medication which needs monitoring as PoTS is very difficult to medicate for.

Sas has again asked me to pass on her best wishes to all her friends and followers on twitter and through her blog as unfortunately there is no internet connection on the ward and to assure you that she will be back soon.

Thank you for all your support, it means a lot to all of us.
