Canadian Tire: Snowshoes Buying Guide
Published on Mar 14, 2012Modern vs Traditional Snowshoes
Published on Mar 14, 2012SSTattler: I'm a beginner so I'll stick to the modern snowshoes; later, maybe 1 or 2 years, I'll look at the "Traditional".
Comparing the flotation, weight, 'float' (the track left behind) and other features of modern mountaineering snowshoes vs. our traditional wooden-framed snowshoes with monoline weave. You can find more information about our guided trips, our snowshoe weaving workshops, or purchasing snowshoes on our site @ www.lureofthenorth.com.
(I might have been a bit harsh on the crampons at the end of the video, but for our trips I feel the drawbacks of the crampon far outweigh its occasional benefits.)

Do It Yourself - Making PVC Snowshoes
Uploaded on Apr 2, 2010Just a few shots to show you how my Boy Scout Troop has been making snowshoes for years. We got the idea from an article in Boy's Life several years ago. You pour hot sand into the PVC pipe, which makes it very flexible. Then put the pipe in a wooden form, remove the sand, and allow it to cool. After it's ridged again, we use steel rods, some webbing material, and truck inner-tubes (for the bindings) to make our snowshoes.
