My Expressive Aphasia Experience 2
Published on Mar 12, 2013Thank you to everyone for your support, it really has meant a lot to me. This is the second video in our little series about having aphasia. I have it because of migraines which have also caused seizures. This began on Dec. 28, 2012, I had a seizure in front of my whole family at our holiday dinner. The main thing I remember from that day is that I did not get to eat my yummy dinner rolls!

Expressive Aphasia - Sarah Scott - Teenage Stroke Survivor
Uploaded on Feb 28, 2010Sarah had an unexpected ischemic stroke when she was 18. She now suffers from aphasia, a communication disorder.
Over million people in the USA have aphasia, and over 350 thousand in the UK.
Every 11 minutes, in the UK, 3 people will have a stroke. One of them will have aphasia.
More young people are suffering strokes. The probable reason for Sarah's stroke was a PFO, a hole in the heart. This was only discovered after the stroke, when Sarah had a barrage of tests to try to find the cause. The hole was closed using an amplatzer device, in November 2009.
We hope that this video might help other young people in a similar situation. I spent hours and hours online, looking for support and answers in the darkest days when Sarah was in hospital.
Please feel free to contact us if you want to!

NeuroLogic Exam: Mental Status-AbNormal: Expressive Language
Uploaded on Mar 29, 2010Expressive language
This patient with expressive aphasia has normal comprehension but her expression of language is impaired. Her speech output is nonfluent and often limited to just a few words or phases. Grammatical words such as prepositions are left out and her speech is telegraphic. She has trouble saying no ifs , ands or buts. Her ability to write is also effected.
Patients with expressive aphasia are aware of their language deficit and are often frustrated by it. Recovery can occur but is often incomplete with their speech consisting of short phrases or sentences containing mainly nouns and verbs.

Grace: Stroke survivor with Broca's aphasia, 5 weeks after stroke
Uploaded on Nov 14, 2011I had a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 45. I blog about my recovery at: http://myhappystroke.blogspot.com. Interview by my husband at Spaulding Rehab, at about five weeks after the stroke (March 2010).
I was trying to answer the question, "What is it like?" (especially to have aphasia)? I was trying to say that my memories of those first few weeks were already fading. But I also thought that I had listened more intensely, because listening was all I could do.
